Denver County Court Magistrate Opportunities
The Denver County Court is accepting applications from qualified attorneys to fill on-call magistrate vacancies. These positions are primarily on-call positions that provide docket coverage in traffic, civil court, protection order court, small claims, juvenile, and state criminal court. The court is also looking to fill weekend coverage for the weekend (courtroom 2100 and 2300) arraignment court. This position often entails last-minute coverage requests when there are unplanned events that result in the need for coverage (emergencies, sick leave, etc.). However, on-call magistrates will also be provided with other assignments ahead of time (due to vacations, etc.) particularly around holidays. The compensation is an hourly rate of $96.74 per hour with no benefits, work an average of 48 hours per month but there is no guarantee of hours; because this position is an on-call “employee” and not an independent contractor, on-call magistrates are not required to pay self employment tax (the City pays the employer’s FICA contribution).
All magistrates are At-Will to the Presiding Judge.
On-call magistrates may work outside positions, but not in the 2nd Judicial District.
