Criminal Division

The criminal division of the Denver County Court is a combination of both our state criminal courtrooms and our municipal courtrooms. As a whole the Criminal Division court handles cases where a party is alleged to have violated one or more laws under either a state statue or municipal ordinance and these cases can run a range from preliminary hearings for serious felonies, to petty offenses, as well as a variety of unclassified criminal offenses at the municipal level, juvenile court matters, and “general violations” matters which are typically cases involving building code, fire code, zoning violations and animal violations.

Persons who have criminal cases before the court may have been arrested due to an outstanding warrant, may have been arrested when alleged to have violated a law, or may have simply been issued a summons and complaint and ordered to appear before the court without being arrested.

The Criminal Division operates 7 days a week, excluding city of Denver holidays, in order to ensure people who are in custody are afforded an appearance before the court in a timely manner.
