Honorable Brian Campbell

Judge Campbell was appointed to the bench in 1980 and served as Presiding Judge from 1990 through 1992. Judge Campbell graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and received his law degree from University of Colorado Law School in 1972.

Prior to his appointment, Judge Campbell served as law clerk for U.S. District Judge Fred Winner in 1974, and was an associate with the law firm of Gorsuch, Kirgis, Campbell, Walker and Grover for approximately 6 years.

Judge Campbell has been recognized with the Denver Bar Association Judicial Excellence Award, the Colorado Women’s Employment and Education Silver Flame Award, the Catholic Lawyers Guild Thomas More Award, and the Rocky Mountain Children’s Legal Center Champion for Children Award. Judge Campbell is an active member of the Denver Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association, and the Minoru Yasui Inn of Court.

While Judge Campbell appreciates the need for traditional courts, he has been a leader in establishing specialty courts having served as the initial judge in Denver’s Environmental Court in 1984, and recently formed, 2011, Sobriety Court. It was under his guidance as Presiding Judge that the Denver County Protection Order Court was established in 1992.
