Honorable Chelsea Malone

Judge Malone was appointed to the Denver County Court bench by Mayor Michael B. Hancock and was sworn in on July 7, 2016. Judge Malone was the first Asian woman to be selected to serve as a judge in Colorado county or district courts. Judge Malone earned her law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and her undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming.

Prior to her appointment, Judge Malone was a solo practitioner specializing in criminal defense and was Of Counsel for the Law Offices of Fred Andrew Dunsing, a family law practice. Judge Malone began her law career as a Deputy Public Defender in the Denver trial office where she worked in both Denver County Court and Denver District Court defending all levels of misdemeanor and felony charges.

Judge Malone has been active as a volunteer coach and judge for high school mock trial competitions and as a reading tutor for elementary school students through Reading Partners Colorado. She currently serves as a board member for the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Colorado and is a member of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association, Denver Bar Association and was formally a member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. Judge Malone is a faculty member for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
