Honorable Doris Burd (retired)

Judge Burd was appointed to the bench in 1989. Judge Burd received her law degree from Temple University School of Law in 1975.

Prior to her appointment, Judge Burd practiced for two years with the Legal Aid Society and then engaged in private practice in Denver from 1980 to 1989. Judge Burd served as a Clinical Education Instructor for the University of Denver College of Law from 1977 to 1979.

Judge Burd has been recognized with the Denver Bar Association Judicial Excellence Award in 1996, the Colorado Judicial Institute Judicial Excellence Award in 2009, and the Colorado County Court Judges Association Judge Anthony Greco Award in 2011. Judge Burd is an active member of the Colorado Bar Association, Denver Bar Association, and the Colorado Women’s Bar Association. Judge Burd chairs the Denver County Court Resource Committee is an advisor to the Appeals Committee, sits on the Warm Welcome Court Child Care Center Board, and served on the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Council.

Judge Burd demonstrates a strong commitment to community service by serving on the board of the Washington Park Community Center, worked with Denver Digs Program of the Park People, and dedicated time to educate students about the legal system and the role of the judiciary through her activities with mock trial programs and classroom visits.
