Honorable James Breese

 

 

 

 

 

Judge Breese was appointed to the bench on April 1, 1987. Judge Breese graduated from Harvard University, AB, Cum Laude in 1969, and received his law degree from Northeastern University in 1973.

Judge Breese opened his own law practice in 1974, and remained a sole practitioner in general practice until 1987. Judge Breese was also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Education at the University of Denver Law School from 1978 to 1979, and an Associate Clinical Professor of Law at the University of Colorado Law School from 1979 to 1982.

Judge Breese has been recognized with the Judicial Excellence Award from the Colorado Judicial Institute, the Judicial Excellence Award from the Denver Bar Association, the Marsh Inn Alfred Harrell Award for Distinguished Service and the Faculty Humanist Award for Teacher Excellence from the University of Colorado.

Judge Breese serves, or has served, as a Trustee of the Denver Bar Association, member of the Bench-Bar Committee, is a District Representative for the Colorado County Judges Association and chairs the Supreme Court Plain Language Criminal Jury Instruction Subcommittee, and is an active speaker about the court system to numerous community groups.
