This type of bond specifically refers to a surety being a bail bond agent, or bondsman. A professional bond is posted by any third-party, for profit, person or business that acts as a surety and pledges money to ensure the appearance of person at their court date. For professional bonds you are entering into a private contact with a third-party. Typically, you will pay a percentage of the whole bond amount to them as their fee (premium) for posting the entire bond amount with the court. These are not fees that you are paying to the court. The fee that you paid to the bail bond agent for a professional bond is not applied to any fines and costs which you may owe and is not refunded to you when your case is concluded.
