How to Pay a Citation

Automated Vehicle Identification Systems are used throughout the City of Denver to deter drivers from speeding and running red lights. It is also a violation to stop beyond the white line at intersections while stopped at a red light.

The photo speed system is typically housed in a Photo Enforcement Van. If the system detects a violation it takes a photograph of the car and driver. For photo light violations, the equipment is housed at the intersection being monitored and if the system detects a violation it takes a photograph of the car and driver.

This information is forwarded to the Photo Enforcement Unit of the Denver Police Department. After the owner of the car has been identified, a Notice of Violation is mailed to the owner.

If you received a Notice of Violation, you can pay the citation online or by mail. If you pay online you must have the citation number and pin number listed on your Notice.

If you pay by mail, mail your check or money order to:

Please include your citation number or license plate number. You must pay by the respond date listed in your notice.
